I am a Marriott Rewards Elite Platinum member. Last night, I was able to secure a Hyatt–Double Elite Qualifying Night for three nights at a Hyatt in Puerto Rico. I’ve been on the road on business for the past two weeks, so I’ve been able to use my Marriott Rewards valuable status as my free night at any Marriott property. I booked this reservation before I even had this card. I got 20,000 Marriott Rewards Points when I earned 120,000 Marriott Rewards Points from a Marriott Rewards Premier Card last year.

Some Hyatt’s elite cardmembers received their new co-brand card in the mail this month, and now they can earn two elite qualifying nights on any Hyatt property whenever they spend $10,000 within 90 days.

Hyatt International has teamed up with American Express to offer a new co-brand credit card, and with that comes some perks. For the first year, the cardholders will receive two elite qualifying nights for Hyatt hotels worldwide, which is worth about $3,000 per person. You’ll also receive five elite qualifying credits, which can be used to receive two ‘best available’ qualifying nights at Hyatt in each of the first two years of card membership, as well as a free night during the third year of card membership.

Credit Card for the World of Hyatt

This year, Hyatt has reduced the number of nights needed for elite membership by half. Instead of the normal 60 qualifying nights, top-tier Globalist rank needs just 30.

What’s more, their Chase co-brand credit card counts elite nights:

  • Every year, the card provides 5 qualifying night credits toward your next tier level.
  • Every $5,000 spent on your card earns you two qualifying night credits toward your next tier level.

This year, Hyatt has made it even easier to achieve elite status by becoming a cardmember. Those who apply and are accepted for the card between August 16, 2024 and September 30, 2024 will get double elite qualifying nights till the end of 2024. (2 elite nights for each eligible night stayed at a Hyatt hotel through December 31st, 2024).

While Globalist status comes with guaranteed 4 p.m. check-out (subject to availability at resorts, casino properties, and Destination Residences and not available at timeshare resorts), confirmed suite upgrades and an assigned Hyatt concierge are benefits earned based on nights stayed.

However, for those pursuing status, this is especially beneficial since it allows you to achieve not just status but also incremental perks – up to 100 qualifying nights:

# Nights Or Benefit
10 3 meetings or 25k base points Discoverist
20 35 thousand base points 2 prizes for admission to the club lounge
30 10 meetings or 50k base points Explorist, two club admission prizes, and a free night for cats 1-4
40 65k points are the starting point 5k points equals a $100 Hyatt gift card, or 10k points equals a 10% discount on the FIND experience.
50 80k starting points 2 suite upgrades have been verified.
60 20 meetings or 100k base points Globalist, two suite upgrade prizes, free night for cats 1–7, concierge
70 N/A a reward of 10,000 points or a suite upgrade
80 N/A a reward of 10,000 points or a suite upgrade
90 N/A a reward of 10,000 points or a suite upgrade
100 N/A a reward of 10,000 points or a suite upgrade

My World Of Hyatt Credit Card receives the majority of my spending. It now offers a bonus of 30,000 Bonus Points if you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first three months after establishing your account. Plus, get up to 30,000 Bonus Points by earning 2 Bonus Points for $1 spent on transactions that usually yield 1 Bonus Point in the first 6 months from account creation, on up to $15,000 spent.

After each cardmember year, get a free night in category 1-4. Spend $15,000 on the card in a single year as a cardmember to get a free category 1-4 night. Even with the elite qualifying nights earned, the $15,000 spent on the card is well worth it.

For as long as your account is active, you’ll receive automatic World of Hyatt Discoverist status, as well as 5 qualifying night credits toward your next tier status every year and 2 qualifying night credits toward your next tier status every time you spend $5,000 on your card.

I’ve already re-qualified for Globalist status, and in early September, I should have 60 elite qualifying nights under my belt. During the final three months of the year, I’m hoping to reach 70. Here’s a tip: you have 90 days to choose your ‘option’ perks for nights of 70, 80, 90, and 100. If you can, wait until the beginning of the following calendar year to ensure suite upgrades are effective for a year longer than if you choose them in 2024. This is useful for arranging vacations that are distant in the future.
