Miami’s new cruise terminal is set to open in late-May 2018, with the first MSC ships arriving in early-June. The new terminal will be located on the north side of Biscayne Bay, and will include a total of five piers that will accommodate more than 50 ships at once. The project is being financed by the city of Miami, and is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs.

MSC Cruises today announced that a new cruise terminal is being planned at the Port of Miami, beginning in 2017. The announcement followed a recent study that found nearly two-thirds of port travelers will choose to visit Florida from the cruise liner.

This week, Barcelona-based MSC Cruises announced plans to construct a $600 million cruise ship terminal in PortMiami, Florida. MSC Cruises and Fincantieri have announced the signing of a contract for the building of a new terminal at PortMiami with Fincantieri Infrastructure Florida.

The terminal, which will cost about $450 million, will be built up of a multi-level central body that will be able to service up to three of MSC’s biggest cruise ships at the same time. The terminal will have the ability to handle up to 36,000 passengers per day.

MSC’s new “mega terminal,” as it’s dubbed, will be able to handle the line’s biggest ships, including the MSC Seashore, which is now under construction at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard, as well as future LNG-powered World Class ships.

This November, Seashore will begin cruising from PortMiami.

MSC Cruises ships that are deployed from the port will be ready to link into the local power system when they dock, in accordance with PortMiami’s intentions to provide shore power connection.

The new terminal will feature office space, a parking garage with a capacity of at least 2,400 cars, and a new road link in addition to passenger amenities. Two of the new docks will be built by MSC, while the third will be built by Miami-Dade County.

The terminal, which is being designed by the global architectural company Arquitectonica, is expected to be finished in December 2024.
