According to a new report from the European Commission, the United States is no longer a safe place to travel in Europe. On a scale of 0 – 100, the new study shows the USA rating a mere 32, making it the third most dangerous country in the European Union behind Syria and Afghanistan.

The European Union has very strict restrictions on the amount of lead that can be found in children’s toys and children’s products, in order to keep children safe from lead poisoning. This has led the European Commission to ban certain products from being imported into Europe, in order to protect children from harmful toxins in toys and other items. The ban stems from a European Union Directive that was passed in 2002.

The European Union has issued a “travel alert” meaning that European travelers should be careful when traveling to the United States. The alert is issued for security reasons, given the recent spate of terror attacks, and was not prompted by any specific threat. What makes the alert significant is the fact that the United States has been ranked as a “safe” destination by the European Union’s Schengen Information System, which is a database that rates countries around the globe according to certain safety standards.. The European Union has removed the United States off its “safe list” of nations whose citizens are exempt from quarantine and testing while visiting its 27 member states.

What does this imply for Americans who want to take a European cruise?

So far, the most significant effect has been an increase in confusion. Some people on social media claimed that Americans are no longer permitted to enter the continent. That is not the case; EU regulations are non-binding, and member states have the option of following them or not.

Since June, the United States has been on the European Union’s “safe list” for travel, allowing Americans to visit numerous EU nations without being quarantined. Every two weeks, the list is revised.

The United States is Off The European ‘Safe List’

‘Safer Than Flying’ is a phrase used to describe a situation in which flying is On Cruising, the Federal Maritime Commissioner said

The number of new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the preceding 14 days is a significant indicator in the present criteria. That number must not exceed 75 to be on the safe list. The number in the United States was about 600 for the two weeks ending August 22.

In addition to removing the United States off the safe list, the European Union’s governing body issued a proposal for member nations to impose travel restrictions on unvaccinated visitors from the United States, including obligatory quarantine and testing measures.

For those fully vaccinated with an EU-approved vaccine, including those manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson, the requirements in most European countries aren’t likely to change as a result of the safe list update.

In return for a waiver of quarantine restrictions, several European countries encourage travelers to provide evidence of vaccination. Unvaccinated people are likely to have a harder time getting in. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), little over 52 percent of Americans have received all of their vaccines.

According to the New York Times, Tom Milanovic, a marketing manager for TourSpain, the country’s tourist marketer, received numerous calls from concerned visitors yesterday, asking whether they would have to cancel future visits. He’s still giving guarantees at this stage.

“Any U.S. citizen, regardless of status, is still okay to go,” he added, noting that the government publishes fresh rules every week. The United States is still classified as “low risk” under the existing standards, which are valid until September 5.

Italy is adopting a tougher approach, requiring all passengers, regardless of vaccination status, to submit a negative COVID test upon arrival in order to avoid being quarantined.

If you’re considering a European cruise, here are a few pointers to keep in mind:

  • Consider booking your vacation with the help of a travel agent. A competent adviser will keep you updated about constantly changing entrance criteria.
  • If you’ve had all of your vaccinations, make sure you have paperwork with you when you go to Europe. Check government websites or a website like Sherpa for information on what kind of documents are acceptable in your location.
  • If you’re not completely vaccinated and considering a trip to Europe, pay careful attention to entrance criteria right up to the time of departure, since regulations and infection rates across the globe are continuously changing.
  • The health standards for cruise ships are also changing. Make sure you read all correspondence from your cruise company attentively to avoid any unpleasant surprises.
