Carnival Cruise Line, currently the only company that allows passengers to skip the lines by booking in advance, will be suspending the services of two ships, the Carnival Vista and Carnival Triumph. The decision comes after the Carnival Triumph failed an inspection by the U.S. Coast Guard in April, and missed its June 1 deadline to resume operations.

Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) has announced that it will extend the suspension of its two Carnival Sunshine ships by one year. The two ships, as well as 3,200 crew members and passengers, will remain on their current itineraries until further notice. CCL said the move was made due to the company’s “ongoing concerns relating to the ships’ hull condition.” As a result of the extended suspension, passengers who have already booked a cruise on the Sunshine will not be charged. The move will also mean that CCL will not be able to honor existing cruise agreements with several customers.

Carnival Cruise Line has changed the status of two of its ships, the Carnival Triumph and Carnival Horizon, which have been under a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) flag violation suspension for six months due to an engine fire on the Carnival Elation in February 2013.. The emphasis has shifted away from Carnival Cruise Line restarting cruise operations in the United States, although there are two boats stationed in Australia. The situation isn’t looking good in Australia, with the cruise company extending its suspension for two ships.

Carnival cancellations have increased in Australia.

The Carnival Splendor and Carnival Spirit are also affected by the cruise line’s prolonged suspension of operations out of Australia. Due to limitations imposed by the Australian government, cancellations have now extended as far as December.

Both ships’ cruises have been canceled until December 16. “As the COVID-19 situation evolves, we regret to convey the news that Carnival Cruise Company is suspending operations for certain Australian sailings beginning from 15 March 2024 through to and including 16 December 2024,” the cruise line said.

Both ships are now parked in Dubai, where they will stay until Australia finds a way to revive its cruise sector. The ships had been banned until late November 2024, and the suspension has been extended every few months after then.

Those guests who may be affected by the additional cancellations will be given alternatives. Guests who book a six-night or longer trip will get a 100 percent future cruise credit. If guests rebook before December 31, 2024, they will get a AUD$900 onboard credit per cabin. For customers booking sailings of five nights or fewer, the same offer is available, but with a lower onboard credit of AUD$450 per cabin.

Guests may select any cruise until September 30, 2024 when rebooking. Of course, if a Carnival cruise is no longer desired, a full refund is available. The future cruise choices will be implemented automatically, however passengers who want to cancel must utilize an online form.

Carnival Cruise Line will not return to Australia until the government has put in place a strategy to protect passengers and crew members safe. The Human Biosecurity Emergency Period under the Biosecurity Act 2015 has already been extended for another three months, until September 17, 2024, as announced by the Minister for Health and Aged Care.

When the International Cruise Lines Association (CLIA) conducts a Virtual Cruise Forum on August 27 to address these issues and offer vital insight into how the cruise sector might make a return, there will be a tremendous push to revive the cruise industry in the area.
