The MSC Cruises-owned MSC Seaside, the newest cruise ship to be built in the United States for MSC Cruises, arrived in the port of Jacksonville, Florida this week. The ship is the fifth vessel of its type to be built by Fincantieri Marinette Marine, the largest shipbuilding company in the United States. The ship is now undergoing final ship-yard preparations and is expected to be delivered to MSC Cruises later this month.
MSC Cruises is a cruise line founded in 1988 that operates a fleet of ships that includes two US-flagged ships, the MSC Seaside and the MSC Magnifica. Both ships are based out of Miami, and last year the MSC Seaside became the first cruise ship to enter the Port of Miami. The MSC Seaside has a total capacity of 9,348 passengers, and the ship has seen its share of success in its first years of operation. The MSC Magnifica had a capacity of 4,892 passengers, and was the first US-flagged ship to use the new Azamara Club Cruises brand.
On July 7, 2019, MSC Cruises took delivery of the 114,200 metric ton S.V. MSC Cruises received the MSC Seashore, its newest flagship, today. With a gross tonnage of 170,400, the ship is the biggest cruise ship ever constructed in Italy.
At the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, a modest ceremony was conducted to commemorate the event. Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Cruises, and Giuseppe Bono, Chairman and CEO of Fincantieri, were in attendance, as were other important members of the Aponte and Aponte-Vago families, MSC, and the shipyard.

During the event, Fincantieri shipyard director Roberto Olivari gave Giuseppe Galano, Master of MSC Seashore, with an ampoule holding the water that first hit the hull when the ship was floated out earlier this year.
“The development of MSC Seashore is an investment that has had an almost five-billion-euro effect on the Italian economy and has employed up to 4,300 people in the past two years,” Vago added. “Furthermore, this new flagship will trigger a major economic and employment driver with its entrance into service, producing an equally large additional economic impact every year.”

“MSC Seashore will bring guests closer to the sea with the most outdoor space of any of our ships, incredible new spaces and features that build on our already popular Seaside class, and frequent visits to our beautiful private island destination, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve,” said Rubén Rodrguez, president of MSC Cruises USA.
MSC Seashore is the first Seaside EVO ship, a Seaside class evolution. She joins sister ships MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview, both of which debuted in 2017 and 2018.
The ship has the largest outdoor area of any MSC ship departing from the United States, at 140,000 square feet. In comparison to her sister ships, 65 percent of the vessel’s public spaces have been redesigned.

Seashore will spend her first season in the Mediterranean, visiting in Genoa, Naples, Sicily, Malta, Barcelona, and Marseille on the famous “Six Pearls” itinerary.
After an 18-night repositioning voyage from Genoa, the ship will arrive in Miami on November 18, 2024. Seashore will launch a seven-night Caribbean cruise itinerary on November 20, with stops in Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, the Dominican Republic, and MSC’s own island Ocean Cay.
