Airlines have issued travel waivers for Florida airports ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa. These waivers allow passengers to make changes to their tickets in case of major flight disruption.
Airlines have started to dramatically increase the number of waivers they are issuing to passengers traveling to Florida’s airports. Passengers in the Emerald state can expect to see a dramatic increase in their risk of delays.
If you’re heading to Florida from March 16 – 18, you’re going to want to have a few things ready to go in case of a hurricane. As Tropical Storm Elsa approaches Florida, airlines have offered travel waivers for passengers traveling into or out of numerous Florida airports.
Four airports, including Fort Meyers (RSW), Key West (EYE), Sarasota (SRQ), and Tampa (TPA), have received a waiver from Delta Air Lines (TPA). Customers traveling to, from, or through the impacted cities between July 6-7 are eligible for the waiver. Reissued tickets must be issued by July 10th, and rebooked travel must commence by July 10th. Following that, a fare differential may apply.

Via July 7, American Airlines is eliminating change costs for passengers flying through Fort Myers, Key West, Sarasota, and Tampa. However, rebooked travel must take place before July 12 to avoid a price difference.
The change charge waiver is valid for Fort Myers, Key West, Sarasota, and Tampa, as well as Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Miami (MIA), West Palm Beach (PBI), and Orlando (Orlando) (MCO). For new flights leaving before July 14, United’s change charge and any price difference will be waived as long as travel is rescheduled in the same cabin and between the same locations as originally booked.
Airports, like airlines, are preparing for the storm’s approach by arranging temporary service interruptions. From Tuesday at 5 p.m. until Wednesday at 10 a.m., passenger flights at Tampa International Airport will be suspended.

As Elsa approaches the state, CNN reports that southern Florida faces a possibly life-threatening storm surge, torrential rainfall, and destructive winds on Tuesday.
