Have you decided to travel to Rhodes this summer? Excellent choice! The island has been known for its beautiful beaches and rich history. The hotel promises you’ll be satisfied with the service, and definitely come back again. It is one of those destinations that should be on your bucket list.
For many, it is the best and most favorite destination in the Aegean Sea. Aside from the above-mentioned facts, most people like it because it’s the natural border between the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea. Also, the entire old part of the city of Rhodes is under the protection of UNESCO. The turbulent history and its Mediterranean location have ensured that even today it exudes a mixture of Greek, Turkish and Italian cultures.
Apart from the famous Colossus of Rhodes, it also abounds in other famous sights. The Acropolis and the stadium of ancient Rhodes, the walls of Rhodes, the Street of the Knights, the Mandraki port, the Ancient Olympic Stadium, the church of Saint Pantaleon… There is no end to the list of the sights.
That’s why it’s a perfect destination for those who like to enjoy beaches, combined with a rich culture, history, and nature.
But, let us come to the subject. The title has raised a question about the transport on the island. Since reaching it via car is not possible, you’ll have a couple of options available when it comes to public transport. Check out the details below…
Bus lines
The island has a fair connection to every part of it, if your choice is to travel by bus. It has two main bus stations going to the Eastern and Western sides. You’ve got approximately 18 buses a day going to different destinations from the East side, and the ticket process ranges from 2-6 EUR depending on where you’re aiming to go.
As for the West side, the same number of daily lines take you to different destinations on this side.
Bus stops along the island are marked, but the drivers are ready to stop even outside the station if you wave at them. At the stations in the interior, the timetable is generally not displayed, so make sure you check the timetable with local tourist info points, or directly at the bus stations.
Travel tickets for an unlimited number of trips are available for one / two / three days.
Taxi
Taxis are dark blue in color, with white roofs, and the ride is charged per taximeter. In the city, the taxi station is located east of Plateia Rimini. There are two taxi zones on the island. Zone I is in the town of Rhodes and Zone II (which is more expensive) is all over the island. Prices are slightly higher between midnight and 6:00 AM.
You should be careful with taxi transportation because as it is with other tourist locations, prices can be not so affordable and difficult to predict.
Bike
A bike is also an option if you prefer to get by this way. You can rent a bike on the island where the price is approximately €5 per day.
A motorcycle is an excellent option for moving around the island, especially through the narrow streets of the city.
Rent – a – Car
Rent-a-car is very common on the island, and perhaps the most comfortable and elegant option for getting around. The price depends on the type of car, and the number of days it is rented. One thing is for sure if you want to make the most out of your stay on this beautiful island, go for rent a car Rhodes.
Renting a car will make your vacation easier, but if you make a mistake in choosing the vehicle, and especially the company, your vacation could end up turning into a small nightmare.
That’s why we’ve dedicated a couple of tips on how to make the right choice, save money, and ultimately return from your holiday with nothing but good memories.
Choosing a vehicle
Think carefully about what kind of vehicle you need. If you are traveling with children and a lot of luggage and intend to do longer trips, choose something bigger and more comfortable. If there are two of you and you want to save money, simply choose the smallest and cheapest car on offer. With such a car, you will also find parking spaces in congested tourist centers more easily. Make sure the vehicle has all the equipment you need, and GPS navigation can be very useful when exploring your destination.
Which company?
As a rule, you won’t make a mistake choosing a company you know, because big companies care about their clients and don’t want to disappoint them and thus possibly get negative publicity. On the Internet, you can easily find user ratings and reviews for a particular company.
Choosing the most affordable option
Internet search engines are the most practical because you can quickly see the widest offer and choose the most favorable price and reserve a vehicle on time, but such an approach often hides pitfalls. You risk much less with direct access to a certain company, either in the branch itself or via the Internet. The very appearance of the branch office, the approach of the employees, and the speed with which they respond to your online inquiries speak volumes about the seriousness of the company. Of course, if you want to compare prices, you will waste much more time this way. Keep in mind that many companies reward customer loyalty, so you can get many benefits, discounts, or even free rides.
If you pay for a car online, read all conditions carefully before confirming your reservation. If you rent it by phone or in a branch office, ask the sales advisor in detail about all conditions and possible costs. The hidden costs of some companies can be higher than those that are primarily shown.
Finally, this island is a paradise for the eyes, soul, and body – a destination that will please everyone. Its sights, smiling hosts, and beaches of incredible beauty will turn every moment into an unforgettable one.
