One of the best ways to save money when you travel is by using a frequent flyer program. If you are an Air Canada Aeroplan member, you can earn miles on flights booked through Air Canada. With Aeroplan Miles, you can book travel on any airline and earn miles based on how much you fly.

Air France has stated that they will soon be introducing a new program to reward members for staying on the same frequent flyer program over a number of years. The program promises many benefits, but they aren’t telling you everything — here’s what you need to know.

Air France KLM announced a new program this year called the Miles and More program. It transfers the points earned by your air miles to a partner, like ShopAtHome, which sells them back to you at a lower value.. Read more about how to keep asia miles from expiring and let us know what you think.

What the Program Rules Don’t Tell You About Keeping Air France KLM Miles From Expiring

on August 9, 2024 by Gary Leff

I previously discussed why I don’t transfer speculative points into Air France KLM’s Flying Blue program, even when there’s a fantastic incentive to do so, and why it’s because of their expiry policy.

Officially, points expire after 24 months unless one of the following conditions is met:

  1. You credit your account with a mileage-earning flight (e.g. on Air France, Delta, etc.)
  2. With a Flying Blue credit card, you may earn miles.

I deposited Chase points into my account in January 2024 for two business class award flights. Because of the pandemic, the trip had to be canceled. The miles were credited back to my account, and the taxes were charged to my credit card. But I needed to prevent my points from expiring.

All of Flying Blue’s miles have been extended until December 31, 2024. That’s a lot more kind than Lufthansa, who ordered passengers to pound sand. However, it meant that I was intending to pick up a Delta flight segment to credit to the account at some time this year.

In reality, however, expiry does not always function as Flying Blue claims. Sandbagger2 says in the comments section of my article,

I think that the need to travel to prolong the life of points only pertains to points gained through flying, not points transferred.

I had points in my account (through credit card transfers) that were about to expire this year, so I recently transferred 1k miles into my Air France/Flying Blue account to extend their expiry date for another two years (until July 2024).

Be cautious: there are data points that support it, as well as data points that contradict it. You could try moving 1000 points from a card partner to your account and see if it works, but I can’t guarantee that it will in every instance.

However, I was fortunate in that I did not need to board that Delta trip. I made an online transaction via their shopping site earlier this month.

And my account’s mileage expiry date was reset as a result. All of them are now set to expire at the end of July 2024.

How To Keep Air France KLM Miles From Expiring (What The Program Rules Don’t Tell You)

In the United States, Air France KLM is a transfer partner for the main bank programs. One of the main reasons to avoid speculative transfers is their expiry policy. However, in certain instances, the actuality of how the policy is handled may differ from the program’s stated conditions.

More From the Wing’s Perspective

A reader recently submitted a query about Air France KLM and was surprised when their miles didn’t automatically roll over each year. You see, the program (known as the AAdvantage Million Miler Program) offers a benefit of automatic rollover if you have more than 10,000 AAdvantage miles, but the rules don’t tell you about the process. While the formal rules are simple, the process isn’t. Here’s what you need to know:. Read more about flying blue credit card and let us know what you think.
