The Grenada Tourism Association (GTA) is the agency responsible for marketing Grenada as a tourist destination. We want to attract more visitors, and to help us do that we need you! We’re looking for bright and energetic people who want to join our exciting and growing team. No experience is necessary, but we do need applicants to have digital and social media savvy, the ability to work independently, and be a team player.

This article is about a new Grenada tourism team seeking to rebound from a dip in visitor growth that has plagued the country in recent years. The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) is a government organization wherein each country’s tourism board is treated as a separate entity, and consists of a board, staff, and the people that work in tourism.

The Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA) is facing a severe economic crisis as a result of travel disruptions caused by the pandemic, and therefore on Friday stated that the agency is expanding its distribution network and forging new partnerships with local tour operators and producers.

The announcement was made during a press conference where GTA representatives introduced the new sales and marketing team led by Petra Roach, who was named CEO of GTA earlier this year. Like many Caribbean countries, Grenada, which has three islands, is trying to revive tourism after reopening last year following the outbreak of COVID-19.

We are in a crisis situation, said Barry Collymore, president of the GTA. We are still in a serious situation. But I think we have put together a team that can take us forward.

According to Collymore, farmers in Grenada, long known as the Spice Island, supply the island’s luxury resorts and shops daily. According to him, the agricultural segment of the country is highly dependent on tourism.

When you come here, you don’t just support hotels, you support a lot of other things, he said. You support the agricultural industry, you support the entertainment and cultural industry, and you support the local tour operators.

We need to reinvigorate tourism, said Dr Clarice Modest-Courvin, Grenada’s Minister of Tourism. This industry is vital to our economy and to creating jobs for many residents of our three islands.

New Grenada Tourism Team Seeking Visitor Growth Rebound

Roach said the GTA has been working closely with various tourism partners this year to restore the growth in visitor numbers that the country experienced in recent years before the pandemic.

We have spent a lot of time working with our airline partners and I am pleased to announce that our full range of seats will be available again in the UK from mid-July, she said. And to the first. By December, we will have filled every seat in the United States, Roach said. Canada and Germany return to action in November.

Change of tactics

She added that the GTA is also changing its approach to working with tour operators. Traditionally, distribution channels have been associated with large tour operators, Roach says. We have dug deep and are expanding our distribution network and reach to smaller boutique operators.

She explained that in addition to Grenada’s well-known attractions of sun and beach, the GTA will seek to add another value-added component to Grenada’s leisure activities, namely our natural resources, as these are ultimately our competitive advantage.

According to Roach, Grenada operates on a smaller scale and with fewer resources than the larger Caribbean destinations.

We have 95 hotels, 2,400 rooms and a population of 112,000, she said. We don’t have the chance to make mistakes. The connections that the president was talking about, we need to make them work for us.

Fortunately, Roach said, Grenada is well positioned to meet the travel needs of vacationers. People are tired of sitting at home, she says. There’s something people call a revenge trip now. People want to get out, breathe and see something new. And we have a lot of offerings – these great spaces – for these types of travelers.

The GTA is also committed to rebuilding the growing cruise segment in Grenada. Modest Curwen said that from the 23rd. Cruise ships will be welcomed back in July when the luxury ship Seabourn Odyssey calls at Grenada as part of Seabourn Cruise Line’s seven-day roundtrip from Barbados.

She added that Grenada Ministry of Health officials require that all passengers and crew members on the flight be vaccinated against COVID-19, and Seabourn has assured us of this, Modesta-Curwen said.

She stated that the final protocols for cruise ship passengers visiting Grenada are currently being drafted, with one or two protocols still to be determined.
