The Fourth of July is right around the corner and the holiday weekend is predicted to be one of the largest overnights ever. With more than 8 million Americans expected to be camping for the holiday, it’s a safe bet that there will be a lot of people staying up late on July 3rd. Since the park service is already completely booked through the Fourth of July weekend and the holiday weekend itself, in many places all the campgrounds are spoken for.

The Fourth of July is fast approaching, and if you’re thinking about heading out on the road with your family, you may wonder how big the demand for campgrounds will be this year. While you aren’t likely to drive around looking for a spot to pitch your tent, you could end up camping if you do find a campground with vacant sites. Last year, an estimated 17.4 million Americans stayed at campgrounds during the holiday weekend, and this year, the numbers are expected to be even higher.

The National Park Service reported that 20 million Americans will camp over the Fourth of July weekend. The park service’s Campground Use Survey, conducted in 2010, found that 21.9 million people will camp, picnic or hang out at a campground on the Fourth of July weekend.

After 15 months of not leaving their homes, Americans are ready to get outside and enjoy the summer months of 2024. As at the height of the pandemic, many American travelers are relying on domestic destinations to cure the fever and are diligently seeking domestic travel deals.

This trend has already led to record numbers of visitors to national parks this summer, with long lines at the gates of the most popular parks and park staff sometimes so overwhelmed that they have had to turn away visitors. Still, most Americans prefer to camp outside, and there’s no better place to do it than during summer vacation.
