Norwegian Cruise Line has been on hiatus since Norwegian Jewel was catastrophically damaged in November of 2017. Since then, Norwegian Cruise Line has been working to rebuild their fleet and rebuild their reputation. The Norwegian Jade is the first cruise ship from the company to be completely restored since the incident, and has been certified as fit for sea. The vessel is now sailing from her homeport in Barcelona, Spain, and will be making her way to Alaska to join her sister ships Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Epic in the summer.

This week, Norwegian Cruise Line will set sail for the next leg of its maiden voyage, which will see it begin a new chapter in its history. The Norwegian Jade, the line’s first ship in 25 years, has sailed from one port of call to another: leaving New York City for Southampton, England on Aug. 11; rounding the tip of South America, docking in Valparaiso, Chile on Aug. 23; crossing the Atlantic, setting sail for New York City on Aug. 25; and finally, docking in Southampton, England on Sept. 1. Another cruise company has reopened for business.

Norwegian Voyage Line celebrated its return to sailing on Sunday with the departure of Norwegian Jade on a seven-night cruise from Piraeus, Greece (the port for Athens). Not only is this the first time a Norwegian Cruise Line ship has ever homeported in Piraeus, but it also symbolizes the company’s return to service.

Crete, Rhodes, Mykonos, Corfu, and Argostoli are among the ports of call along the way. The ship will travel this route until November 2024.

The arrival of Norwegian Jade at Piraeus is part of a long-term strategy to expand the line’s footprint in Europe. Norwegian intends to send nine ships to the area between now and 2024, with the Norwegian Dawn, Epic, Escape, Getaway, Gem, Jade, and Star sailing in Greece.

Norwegian Encore, after Norwegian Jade’s return to cruising, will be the first Norwegian ship to resume voyages in the United States when she leaves Seattle for Alaska on August 7. Norwegian Gem is scheduled to leave Miami for the Caribbean on August 15, marking the start of Norwegian Cruise Line’s return to Florida sailings.

All passengers and staff will be required to be completely vaccinated until at least October 31, 2024.

The Norwegian Cruise Line’s Peace of Mind cancellation policy will remain in force until October 31, 2024. Those who book these sailings have the option to cancel 15 days before departure and get a full future cruise credit that may be utilized on any sailing until December 31, 2024.
