American Airlines is one of the world’s leading airlines, and it is often at the top of flyers’ best travel deals lists. If you’re looking for cheap flights to the Americas, you may want to use an American Airlines mile credit card. The AAdvantage program has a number of ways that you can earn American Airlines miles in exchange for the money you spend. For example, you can earn and use American Airlines miles by purchasing gift cards, taking surveys, shopping online, and more.

My history with American Airlines dates back to the day I was born, and I’ve spent the past 15 years of my life on American Airlines flights. For a long time, I was a loyal member of the Mileage Plus program. Over the years, I’ve earned a lot of miles and even more points. I’ve flown Business and First Class, flown to exotic places around the world, and even been awarded a free trip to Europe. My favorite thing about American Airlines was, and still is, the fact that, when I fly, I can earn miles and points on every purchase I make throughout the year, regardless of how much money I spend.

You’ve decided to fly more often, but you don’t want to pay premium prices for your flights. And you’d like to earn miles during your travels, but don’t want to spend money on additional award tickets. The answer is this indirect transfer program, Dividend Miles – which allows you to earn up to 2 American AAdvantage miles for every $1 spent on all with your spending.. I do not write about all credit cards that are available — instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Terms apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.

The Citi® Double Cash Card has no annual fee and earns 2% cash back (1% when you make a purchase and 1% when you pay for the purchase). That makes it one of the best value cards (strong rewards with no or low annual fee) and one of the very best cash back cards.

So far so good, it’s been a strong value card for awhile. However they made a change that turns the card from a top cash back card into a top card, period. The Citi® Double Cash Card‘s earnings transfer to Citi ThankYou Points at 1:1 (so $1 in cash rewards becomes 100 ThankYou Points).

On their own these points can’t transfer to most of Citi’s airline partners however if you combine points from a Citi® Double Cash Card into a Citi Premier® Card account you’ll be able to effectively use the card to earn 2 transferable points to airline miles per dollar spent. That means the minimum you’d ever earn is 2 miles per dollar with your choice of:

  • Star Alliance: EVA Air, Avianca LifeMiles, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines
  • oneworld: Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Qantas, Qatar
  • SkyTeam: Air France KLM, Aeromexico
  • Non-alliance: Etihad, Emirates, JetBlue, JetPrivilege, Virgin Atlantic

And through November 23, 2024 American AAdvantage is a transfer partner as well.

That means with Double Cash and Premier you can earn 2 American AAdvantage miles on all of your otherwise-unbonused spend.

Citi Premier® Card is offering its biggest-ever initial bonus to earn 80,000 bonus points after $4,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. The card earns 3 points per dollar spent at restaurants; supermarkets; gas stations; air travel; and hotels.

Then in all of the categories you’re not earning triple points, put the spend on your Citi® Double Cash Card and earn 2 points per dollar, transfer those points into your Premier account, and move them to American AAdvantage miles.

Whenever I travel, I like to sign up for flights that offer miles for every dollar spent. It’s a great way to save money and it’s a good feeling when you’re able to earn miles at an accelerated rate. I have found that when I search for flights on a search engine, the “special” fares (special because they are usually lower than the regular fare, and usually include extra bonuses) can sell out in a matter of minutes. So, if you check in early enough, and you’re willing to forego the current economy-class price, there are some ways to earn miles for every dollar you spend..
